Man hit by his vehicle when attempting to flee to avoid arrest

When the police ask you to pull over, it's in your best interests to do so right away. Attempting to flee the scene or avoid a traffic stop will get you into more trouble than if you allow yourself to be pulled over in most cases.

When you attempt to flee on foot or in your vehicle, you create a dangerous situation for yourself and the police. Fortunately, in this case, no one was seriously hurt. Remember, you can always defend yourself after an arrest, but fleeing only adds to the penalties you could face.

An interesting story out of Virginia reported that a suspect in a DWI was struck by his own vehicle as he allegedly attempted to flee from the police. According to the news, the officers stopped the man because of a window-tint violation. Instead of stopping, he drove away. He stopped his vehicle several blocks later before trying to run away on foot.

Once he pulled over and got out of the vehicle, the car began to roll. He had failed to put it into park. Fortunately, despite being struck and thrown over the hood of his own vehicle, he is expected to be fine. The police chased him, caught him and arrested him for fleeing before discovering that he was intoxicated. If he's convicted, it will be his third offense in the state. He also faces additional charges including possessing an open container while operating a motor vehicle, hit-and-run, possession of marijuana and driving with a revoked license. Warrants were also out for the man's arrest from other jurisdictions.
